When we are born in this life… we receive the honor, the privilege, the benefit, the advantage of receiving many good things… And one of our greatest blessings are the amazing people that we come across in so many ways, either we meet them because we are family, school mates, flames, friends, co-workers, members of the same church, people who believe the same beliefs, infatuations, people who in many ways we learn to love, to trust, to respect, to honor, to value, to appreciate… And many times finding people that we can find all these qualities and meet people with these traits are a rare opportunity during our journey here on earth. But there are zillions of qualities that we are blessed to find in some people that makes us so proud to know them, to be a part of their life and moreover to have them as a constant presence in our lives; despite the miles that many times are between us and so many of our loved ones.
Here in the Santos home, we were all blessed knowing a person that we truly loved and cared for… a person who had more life than anyone we know and was indeed larger than life. A person whom we had the honor of having in our lives and be able to never be apart, in spite of the miles that existed between us all. Scott Gillen was that person… He left this world and it has been a very hard misfortune to bear… We had so many plans to get together and we had been always a part of each other’s lives, through the rebellious, truthful, devoted, sad, and happy and so many more stages of mind that Scott shared with us during his short phases of life… Scott had given us such great reasons to be proud of him. He had worked so hard this past summer and almost had the money to pay for his full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints…A.K.A….as the Mormon Church. He had such a great desire of becoming a Medical Doctor, Just three days before he departed this life at such a young age while trying to achieve his Eagle Scout…he wrote us an email, asking how my cancer treatments were going and reminded me that he was going to be a Medical Doctor and was going to take care of me and wouldn’t ever stop treating me and therefore I would live forever… that was how amazing Scott was.
And when we find ourselves wondering WHY? The truth is, we may never be able to know for sure why. But we do know that there is no single “Should have done” or “did” or “didn’t do”, which would have changed that why. All that love could do was done and we know that longer after we’ve said our good-byes, our hearts will remember. Nothing can ever take the place of someone we cherished so much. But someday, we all will smile at the remembrances of the wonderful moments we all shared…and a little happiness will return. Scott you will be such a great missionary to all the spirits that are waiting to hear the gospel… and we feel comfort knowing that you will see Carlos and all our loved ones that already departed this earth and it comforts me knowing that you will be there waiting whenever my time to join all of you arrives. You will always be loved and remembered as a son, a friend, a family member and someone that we will always treasure in our hearts.
Rest in peace…
Rest in peace…
